What’s new in SlateData
Follow along as we build.
v0.12
September 2026
One design system across the app, a refreshed home and navigation, safer sharing, and a faster first load.
- One design system — consistent colors, type, corners, and shadows across home, Explore, Shared, settings, editors, creation flows, and modals, with cool neutrals and full dark mode that follows your OS setting
- Refreshed home and navigation — a signed-in home with quick actions to resume work or create a visualization, Home, Explore, and Shared links, breadcrumb trails across workspaces and the Data Explorer, searchable datasource selection, and an account menu behind your avatar
- Cleaner deck editing — insertion, presentation, and sharing controls in three bands with a More menu, canvas zoom, charts that redraw as you resize them, a unified slide footer, and a block menu that also works in view mode
- Roomier AI assistant — a resizable, full-height dock on deck and chart pages, questions from the Data Explorer, previews of proposed changes to saved charts, and automatic reconnection after a dropped connection
- Smarter generated SQL — date-range filters are written so your indexes are used, and coded fields such as state and office codes match exactly instead of by fuzzy search
- Safer sharing and saving — viewer filters are applied on the server instead of rewritten into SQL, viewers can only re-run the saved query, saving a chart re-checks its datasource, SQL, and lock, and undo or restore leaves sharing settings and slide links intact
- Datasources and members — PostgreSQL tables are discovered in every schema, not just public; people can be added to a workspace or deck by email before they have an account, are sent to sign-up instead of sign-in, and receive a notification when added
- Faster first load — a smaller initial bundle, fonts shipped as compact woff2 subsets, and editor grammars and the MCP client loaded only when needed
- More accessible — page landmarks, accessible dialogs, keyboard-navigable slide lists and toolbars, keyboard reach for cards, slide blocks, and tiles, visible focus rings, and improved phone layouts with larger touch targets
- Refreshed website — redesigned homepage, use-case and pricing pages, interactive product previews, a new blog, an updated contact form, and dark mode
- Reliability and security — thumbnails, PDF, and PowerPoint rendering moved to a dedicated service, Debian and dependency security updates, and global datasources now require membership in the owning organization
v0.11
August 2026
Multi-datasource analysis, a free-form deck editor, and new ways to revise, present, and share charts.
- Multi-datasource querying — combine results with AI-detected join keys, refine them in plain English, and get clarifying questions or help with query errors
- Edit saved charts — revise SQL or preview AI-proposed changes, then save a new version while preserving compatible chart settings
- Computed columns and display labels — combine text, calculate numeric values, and rename labels across tables, axes, tooltips, and legends
- Free-form deck editing — rich text, images, tables, and shapes with preset layouts, canvas zoom, alignment guides, and copy/paste across slides
- Deck and chart history — undo, redo, and restore versions, with descriptive deck history labels, author names, and chart locking
- Presenting and exports — generated covers, linked contents, private speaker notes, presenter timers, and improved PowerPoint and image rendering
- Chart customization — expanded styling, chart-view zoom, instant slide redraws, and reorganized settings with clear Save/Discard controls
- Libraries and administration — searchable decks and charts, individual sharing, bulk deletion, an Example workspace, and Site Admin organization overviews
- Datasource improvements — cross-workspace imports, Elasticsearch connections, ClickHouse cross-database queries, and more reliable CSV, JSON, and historical-date imports
- Usability and reliability — better keyboard access, responsive layouts, faster charts and previews, and stronger session, sharing, and upload protections
v0.10
July 2026
Multi-datasource querying, a full slide editor for decks, and visualization versioning.
- Multi-datasource querying — ask one natural-language question across several connected datasources, with AI-detected join keys, then filter, sort, and refine the combined result in plain English
- Free-form slide canvas — preset layouts, smart alignment guides, drag-and-drop reordering, and copy/paste of text and images
- Generated cover slides with an AI overview and a linked table of contents
- Rich text in decks — formatting, bullets, line spacing, block backgrounds, and links to external URLs or other slides
- Visualization locking and version history, in an admin panel reorganized into Data, Appearance, Content, and Viewer access
- Chart customization on an upgraded d3plus engine — axis controls, marker styling, per-stat colors for single-number visualizations, and the option to hide titles, subtitles, and footers
- Computed columns and per-column display renaming — derive and relabel columns from query results without rewriting SQL
- Searchable, filterable visualization library — reuse any visualization in a deck as an independent copy, plus per-user sharing for private decks and visualizations
- ClickHouse cross-database queries, better date handling on data space ingest, and validated URL imports for table uploads
- Accessibility sweep — labeled interactive controls, keyboard navigation fixes, responsive layouts, and additional dark mode polish
