Slide Decks
A slide deck is a presentation: assemble your visualizations and content into slides, then present them or export them to PowerPoint or PDF for leadership.
Creating a Slide Deck
- On your workspace's Overview, click New, then Slide Deck.
- Give the deck a Title and an optional description, then click Create Slide Deck.
- Open the deck and start adding visualizations and content to its slides.
Building Slides
A slide deck is a series of 16:9 slides — the same shape as a PowerPoint presentation — that you present one slide at a time, rather than a dashboard. Each slide is a canvas you arrange your visualizations along with content blocks.
- Click Add a chart in the bar at the top of the page, then Import a saved chart to place an existing visualization, or New visualization to build a new one for this slide.
- Use Add text for a paragraph, Add a heading for a Heading 1, 2, or 3, Add an image for an image block, or Add a shape for a rectangle, ellipse, line, or arrow.
- Drag and resize any block to arrange your layout.
- Click Add slide at the bottom of the slide list and choose a layout to add a slide. Drag slides in the list to reorder them.
Content Blocks
Every item on a slide is a content block. Five types are available:
Cover Slide
When workspace AI is enabled, ask the assistant to add a cover slide to the deck. Tell it the deck’s topic, audience or key message if you like. It proposes an editable first slide with the deck title, an overview of the slides, and linked contents, and you apply it. On a new deck, the cover takes the place of the blank first slide. Asking again replaces the current cover and any edits on that slide.
Exporting to PowerPoint & PDF
When the deck is ready, click Share or download this deck at the top right to open Share and download. Its Export section has two buttons:
- Download PowerPoint generates an editable .pptx file — text comes through as real, editable text boxes and each chart is rendered as a high-resolution image, so you can keep refining the deck in PowerPoint.
- Download PDF generates a print-ready file with every slide at 16:9, ideal for sharing a fixed, final version.
Presenting
Click Present at the top of the deck and choose how. Each opens in a new browser tab:
- Present (audience) shows the slides full-size. Fullscreen (F) fills the screen, and Contents jumps to any slide.
- Presenter view (with notes) shows the current slide, a preview of the next one, your Speaker notes, and a timer you can Pause, Reset or turn into a countdown with Set countdown.
Move between slides with the arrow keys, Page Up and Page Down, or Space; Home and End jump to the first and last slide. Open both views from Present in the same browser on the same computer and they stay in step: moving in either one moves the other.
Speaker Notes
Click Speaker Notes below the slide to write notes for it; they save as you type. Notes are only for people who can edit the deck: anyone viewing it, through sharing or a public link, never sees them. The assistant can draft notes for a slide too.
Undo & Version History
The deck's More actions menu has Undo and Redo (or press Cmd+Z and Cmd+Shift+Z; Ctrl on Windows), and Version history, which lists every saved version with who made it and when. Restore puts an earlier version back; the live one is marked Current.
Sharing a Slide Deck
A new deck is private: only workspace members can view it. In Share and download, turn the switch on to make it a shared deck — anyone with the link can view it, no login required — and optionally List on Explore. While a deck is private, you can give individual people view access under Share with people: type a name or email in Add people, pick the person, and click Share. No email is sent; Copy link copies the deck's link to send them. To edit a deck, someone must be a member of the workspace.
Examples. Organization admins can share a slide deck as an example with every workspace in the organization, and SlateData shares some with everyone: open Share and download and choose who under Share as an example. An example can only use organization or SlateData datasources. Other workspaces find it under Examples, open it read-only, and use Copy to workspace to make an editable copy (a deck's visualizations are copied with it). Switching off a datasource an example uses hides the example too.
Deleting a Slide Deck
Choose Delete deck from the deck's More actions menu. Deleting a deck removes the deck itself but does not delete the underlying visualizations. They remain in the workspace for use in other decks.
