Learn how to get the most out of SlateData
Workspaces
Workspaces organize your datasources, visualizations, and slide decks into separate projects with their own members and permissions.
Creating a Workspace
Organization members with the creator, admin, or owner role can create new workspaces.
- In the rail on the left, click New workspace (the plus below your workspaces). The All workspaces page, under search, has a New workspace button too.
- Enter a Workspace name — a URL slug is generated from it automatically.
- Click Create workspace. You will be assigned the owner role.
Workspace Overview
Click a workspace in the rail to open its Overview: one library of everything in the workspace, its slide decks, visualizations and data. Use the Search box above the list to find something by name, Filter to narrow it by Type (Slide Decks, Visualizations, Data) or to sort and group it, and List or Grid to change the view. Each item's ⋯ menu opens it; for people who can edit, a slide deck's menu also has Rename and Delete, and a visualization's has Add to slide deck…, Edit query and Delete. People who can edit the workspace make new things with New. A workspace with nothing in it shows Add data instead.
Workspace Settings
Workspace owners (and organization admins who are members) open settings by hovering the workspace in the rail and choosing Workspace settings on its card. Organization admins reach any workspace's settings, including one they aren't in, from Organization settings > Workspaces. Settings has two tabs:
Datasources aren't a settings tab: they're listed on the workspace's Overview with everything else.
Adding Members
Workspace owners (and organization admins) can add new members:
- Go to Workspace settings > Members.
- Under Add by email, enter the person's email address.
- Click Add — they're added as a workspace member and get an email with a link to the workspace. Someone without a SlateData account gets an invitation, and joins the organization as a Viewer when they sign up. Someone who has an account but isn't in your organization can't be added this way: an organization admin invites them to the organization first. What members can do inside the workspace comes from their organization role.
You can also use Add a group to grant access to multiple users at once.
Switching Workspaces
The rail on the left shows each of your workspaces as its icon; hover one to see its name, and click it to open its Overview. Search finds any of your workspaces by name and has the All workspaces page. To switch to another organization, open your account menu (your initial, at the bottom of the rail) and pick it under Organization. On phones, the menu button at the top opens the rail.
