Learn how to get the most out of SlateData
Getting Started
A quick overview of how to set up your first workspace, connect data, build your first visualization, and turn it into a slide deck you can present.
1. Create a Workspace
Workspaces are how you organize your data and visualizations. Each workspace has its own datasources, members, and slide decks.
- In the rail on the left, click New workspace (the plus below your workspaces).
- Enter a Workspace name and click Create workspace.
- You'll be set as the workspace owner automatically.
2. Connect a Datasource
Datasources provide the data behind your visualizations. SlateData connects to databases and warehouses, and can also hold files you upload.
- On your workspace's Overview, click New, then Data, and choose a connector (All connectors… lists them all). To upload a CSV, JSON or Parquet file instead, click New, then Upload a file.
- Fill in the connection details, click Next, review them, and click Create (for example Create PostgreSQL). SlateData checks the connection when you create the datasource.
3. Build a Visualization
Once you have data connected, you can start building visualizations.
- On your workspace's Overview, click New, then Visualization.
- In the Data panel on the left, open a datasource and one of its tables to see its rows, or click SQL to write a query. With AI on, you can instead ask the assistant in the middle of the page for the data you want.
- With rows on screen, click Visualize, choose a chart type, and click Create chart. The visualization is saved to the workspace.
- Fine-tune it in the Admin settings panel, or add it to a slide deck.
4. Present Your Work
Add organization members to your workspace, assemble your visualizations into a slide deck, and download it as PowerPoint or PDF from the deck's Share and download window to present to leadership — or embed individual charts in external pages.
